El Corrido de Los Tequileros
Yo estudié el corrido de los tequileros lo cual centra en el pasar alcohol de contrabando a los EEUU por los mexicanos. En el corrido “Los Tequileros”, tres hombres llamados Leandro, Silvano y Geronimo empezaron una operación de contrabando en Ciudad Guerrero, Tamulipas, lo que esta al otro lado de la frontera de Zapata, Texas. Me interesa el tema porque se trata de las relaciones de México y EEUU, y porque los americanos eran representados como banditos y los contrabandistas eran representados como héroes. Fue polémico porque, debido al Acto de Prohibición en los EEUU, había violencia usada contra los mexicanos que eran contrabando alcohol.
En 1922, “El Corrido de Los Tequileros” surgió expresando el cuento de tres contrabandistas de tequila que eran matados por los guardias de Tejas durante una operación. Fue uno problema porque era ilegal consumir alcohol debido a la violencia y disturbios a matrimonios. El período de Prohibición era difícil para los EEUU, creando una necesidad por contrabando ilegal de tequila de México. Era legal para los mexicanos hacer, vender, y transportar alcohol en México. El transporto ilegal era una manera para los mexicanos obtener trabajo.
El acto de contrabando era muy fácil para contrabandistas mexicanos porque regular la inmigración era casi imposible cumplir. Porque las puestas de control en las fronteras eran separadas por cincuenta millas, los mexicanos podrían caminar través de la frontera con artículos como alcohol.
Éste evento es importante porque era muestra las relaciones entre México y EEUU y espectáculos una perspectiva diferente de la tensión y el conflicto con ambos países. Contrabando de alcohol era un problema actual temprano durante temprano siglo XIX. Ahora, el alcohol es legal en los EEUU, pero el problema de contrabando de drogas. Vemos similitudes entre ahora y hace ciento años. Como muchos corridos durante ésta época, “Los Tequileros” representa los contrabandistas como hombres valientes y los americanos como banditos y asesinos despiadados.

Reflection
This project was an exploration of corridos written in Mexico during the mid 1800's and forward. A corrido is a Mexican folklore that tells a story about a person, place, event, or series of events. It was a way for the citizens of Mexico to express and glorify the acts of their people, and use music as a voice to speak to specific subjects. The goal of this project was to look at different aspects of the Spanish culture as well as the relations between the United States and Mexico. We started off by studying many events and phenomenons that have influenced the relationship of the US and Mexico such as the Mexican-American war, the Mexican Revolution, the Mexican Farm Labor Program (Bracero Program), César Chávez an the farm workers movement, modern immigration struggles, narcocorridos, and the trends in immigration. Every student researched a wide variety of topics, from alcohol smuggling to the working conditions of Hispanic farmers in the US. We then wrote our own corridos that paralleled the topics that they chose and made a visual piece to accompany it. For my project I chose to research "Los Tequileros", which was the smuggling of alcohol from Mexico into the US during prohibition. This subject interested me because I think it parallels much of what is going on currently with the drug smuggling. Alcohol smuggling was something that I had never heard of, and was inclined to learn more about. It shows a lot about the relations between the two countries, and how much of it is influenced by "illegal" actions.
For my project piece, I created a wanted poster and propaganda poster. These posters were supposed to signify the attitude from the United States' perspective of alcohol smuggling, and the opinion of alcohol use in America at the time. I felt they accurately represented the events that were taking place at the time, and captured the essence of the song I researched, "Los Tequileros". To create these posters I researched wanted posters from this time period and the type of propaganda that was influencing people to think a certain way about prohibition. I used Photoshop to then create the posters from scratch. After these were complete, I printed them out and burned the edges to give it an older, more vintage look. Both posters were then nailed to an old board and displayed at exhibition. I chose this project piece because I thought it would be aesthetically pleasing, and give my audience an insight to what I had been researching.
Three things I learned about in terms of grammar in this project was how to accurately determine which past tense to use. I learned how to conjugate both the preterit and imperfect uses of the past tense, and expand my linguistic skills in terms of pronunciation and word variety. From writing my report and corrido, I learned a lot about Mexican- American history. Some of the things I learned were about Mexican-American relations, and how alcohol smuggling parallels the current drug smuggling conditions. I learned about the reasoning behind Prohibition and how Mexico wasn't prohibited from selling alcohol, so bringing it into the US was a good business. I also learned a great deal about how corridos glorify the act of smuggling, and make the US out to be bandits. This is the case with many other corridos, because it gives people something to root for. The most challenging part of this project was finding reliable resources and making sure I understood all aspects of this phenomenon. I had to understand America's point of view and Mexico's, and put myself in the shoes of a "tequilero" so I could write a decent corrido about what they went through. My corrido showed more of Mexico's point of view, and my physical project showed the United States point of view. To overcome this challenge, I put a lot of effort into researching and making sure that I was getting information from credible sources. I am proud of the work I have done for this project, and enjoyed doing it.

Videos Ridículos
For this project we were given several grammar topics to focus on, and told to create a video about that particular topic. My group chose to focus on gustar-like verbs, and had it be about Justin Bieber (of course, the typical teenage girl topic). We began by writing a script and planning out what our video would incorporate. After we created this, we began filming and recording a song while using many gustar-like verbs, and using repetition so the viewer could gain knowledge about our topic. La parte más difícil fue crear un plan que contenía todos los aspectos necesarios, mientras tener un aspecto cómico para mantener el interés los estudiantes y la audencia. La otra parte más difícil fue escribir una canción para cantar, donde las sílabas caben las líneas de "U Smile". La parte más divertida fue crear el vídeo. A mí me gustó la filmación y manipular las fotos y clips de vídeo porque era muy cómico y creativa. Estoy orgullosa de mis habilidades a encajar un vídeo bueno, y mi habilidad de aprender un programa que yo no sabía. Aprendí a usar los verbos de gustar correctamente, y no voy a olvidar. Era un buen proyecto para recordar gramática u vocabulario del pasado.

The part that was most difficult in this project was creating a plan that contained all aspects necessary, while having a humorous aspect that kept viewers engaged. We had to develop parts for each of our group members, and the hardest part of this was writing a song for me to sing where the syllables fit each line of "U Smile". Though this was difficult, I was able to create a song that I am very proud of (even though it is unbelievably corny). The part that was the most fun during this project was creating the video. I enjoyed filming and manipulating pictures and video clips because it was a humorous process, that allowed me to be creative. I am proud of my abilities to put together a decent video, and my ability to learn a program that I was not entirely familiar with. After doing this project I feel confident in my abilities to understand and develop sentences using gustar and gustar-like verbs. I relearned how to use gustar verbs correctly, and I know now I will not forget them.

This project was designed to allow us to study a Spanish speaking country of our choice and create a survival guide specific to that country. We started out by researching our country and gathering information that would prove useful to someone traveling through the country. We looked into greetings, transportation, food, accommodations, and a topic specific to our country. We were also put into contact with someone who had experienced, traveled to, or lived in our country of choice so that we could get a better understanding of what it was like to be emerged in their culture and customs. Throughout this experience we also learned that each Spanish speaking country is different, and certain sayings or words can mean different things no matter where you go. To see this, and to practice our linguistic skills, we were asked to create short skits of situations that could occur in our country. We designed sets for our skits and performed them live at exhibition.

La Reflexión
The most difficult part of this project was managing my time when creating the pages to the survival guide. I chose to go with a more difficult program which was not time efficient and ended up causing me a lot of stress. The most fun I had with this project was also the most difficult part. I loved being able to be creative and design an aesthetically pleasing layout for each page. I love graphic design and it is one of my strong suites. I am proud of this project because the book turned out really well after being printed. I am also proud of my ability to memorize a skit in Spanish and perform it in front of a large audience. By doing this project I learned a lot about "Bolivianisms" and how to be an efficient traveler whether that be ordering food, trying to get transportation, or conversing with locals. I also learned a lot about how different countries, though they all speak Spanish, have differences in meaning.
La parte más difícil fue manejando tiempo en la creación de las páginas para la guía de supervivencia. Yo escogí una difícil programa
que no fue eficiente en el tiempo y me causó estrés. La parte más divertida fue también el parte más difícil. Me encantó ser creativa y diseñar bonitos diseños para cada página. Me gusta arte gráfico y estoy bueno en eso. Estoy orgullosa de este proyecto porque el libro se miró bien después que era imprimió.
